YUSUF AL-QARDHAWI’S CONCEPT OF TRANSFORMATIVE DA’WAH IN THE BOOK (Awlawiyat Harakah al-Islamiyah fi al-Marhalah al-Qadimah)

Abstract

The discourse of transformative da'wah is a field of study that continues to develop in the science of da'wah, offering an understanding that da'wah is not merely the verbal delivery of religious messages, but goes beyond that to become a social engineering effort. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach, as well as a study of figures. To understand the term of transformative da'wah, several theoretical studies are formulated, which discuss the discourse of da'wah, the philosophy of da'wah, and the perspective of transformative da'wah developed by contemporary scholars or intellectuals. This study shows that the concept of Transformative Da'wah in the thoughts of Sheikh Yusuf al-Qardhawi is any activity or movement of the people that is collective (Jam'ah) and organized. This movement is understood not only as sermons, lectures, seminars, or papers, but also as a broader social engagement. The actualization of transformative da'wah has four mechanisms: horizontal expansion, synergy between scholars, intellectuals, and cendekiawan, the community of popular movements, and building a network of entrepreneurs. The challenges of transformative da'wah include external factors, which refer to the challenges posed by Western globalization bringing ideologies that contradict Islamic values, and often Muslims being scapegoated with negative claims. Internal factors include division within the Muslim community and fear of renewal
