RITUAL COMMUNICATION OF THE SASAK COMMUNITY IN OI SARO VILLAGE IN STRENGTHENING SOCIO-RELIGIOUS RELATIONSHIPS IN OI SARO VILLAGE, SANGGAR DISTRICT

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process and role of ritual communication in the Sebet traditional ceremony among the Sasak people in Oi Saro Village, Sanggar District, in strengthening social and religious relationships amidst the tide of modernization. The Sebet traditional ceremony functions not only as a local cultural celebration but also as a medium for expressive and symbolic communication that integrates customary values with Islamic teachings. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study on the Sasak community of Oi Saro Village. The results indicate that the ritual communication process of the Sebet custom occurs through three main stages: pre-ritual, during ritual, and post-ritual, utilizing verbal, non-verbal, and symbolic messages (such as Roah, Nyongkolan, Gendang Beleq, and Ngurisang). This ritual serves as a means to reinforce social solidarity, maintain intergenerational bonds, uphold religious values, and preserve cosmological balance. Thus, ritual communication in the Sebet tradition plays an effective role as a mechanism for cultural preservation and the strengthening of social-religious harmony within the Sasak community of Oi Saro Village.
